Meet Principal Consultant Nick Mooney

Nick has always loved schools and sport and the opportunities it can bring people. This passion motivated him to establish Gazelle Consulting in 2020.

Before founding Gazelle, Nick spent ten years as Strategic Manger for School Sport Victoria and has spent a lifetime working in schools, school sport and sport. He remains a registered teacher who still coaches sport in schools.

Nick is also the Executive Director of a charity that supports young sports people from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, The Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund.

“Over a period of 10 years, I have worked directly with Nick in a number of roles. “I have had the pleasure of knowing Nick Mooney over the last 10 years, having met him at School Sport Victoria premises through a collaborative research project conducted by the University of Canberra and the Victorian Department of Education.

Nick’s interest in the project, and in his enthusiasm for enhancing sport and physical education within the Department were clearly evident, and I always enjoyed the opportunity to discuss these and related matters.

His administrative skill, as well as understanding of the benefits of school sport and physical education, undoubtedly arise from his valuable early experiences as a physical education teacher followed up with his work with sporting organizations and School Sport Victoria.

The satisfaction Nick derives from helping other is also evident from the work he has carried out in a voluntary capacity for various sporting bodies. Finally, and perhaps as important as anything else, I’ve found that Nick’s easy style lends itself to friendly and relaxed teamwork..

Nick has been an immeasurable and steadfast help to me as a mentor. From the beginning he has supported and believed in my goals of joining the sports industry. He pushes me outside of my comfort zone to prove that I can achieve my goals if I am prepared to be a little uncomfortable in the process. Nick always carves time out of his schedule to offer advice and guide me through challenges. Nick was instrumental in securing my first internship through his connections within the industry. He is always in your corner and will do what he can to help you get a start in the sports industry.”

I have never been around a person who can articulate themselves and understand any situation like Nick. He is always seeking to have a genuine impact on the organisations with whom he works. His commitment to get the job done means that very soon he is welcomed as one of the team, an integral part of our approach to solving the challenges faced. I would recommend Nick to anyone that is set on taking their School Sport program to the next level as well as to those wishing to develop their staff in schools.

Nick’s passion for supporting and empowering young athletes is inspiring.
